General Partner (GP)

A General Partner (GP) is an individual or entity responsible for managing a private investment fund, such as a private equity or venture capital fund. In the context of family office software, the GP plays a central role in overseeing the fund's operations, making investment decisions, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

The GP typically has fiduciary duties to act in the best interests of the fund's investors, known as Limited Partners (LPs). They are tasked with identifying investment opportunities, conducting due diligence, and executing transactions. Family office software may assist GPs by providing tools for portfolio management, performance tracking, and reporting, streamlining their ability to manage complex financial data.

Unlike LPs, who contribute capital but have limited involvement in day-to-day operations, GPs often bear unlimited liability for the fund's obligations. This distinction underscores the importance of robust systems to support their decision-making and operational responsibilities.
